Payment Options for Pediatric Speech Therapy
Finding the right speech therapy for your child is an important step, but figuring out how to pay for therapy can sometimes feel overwhelming. At Pediatric Speech Stars, we believe families deserve access to high-quality, family-centered, evidence-based pediatric speech therapy and clear information about the different ways they may be able to access care.
Every family’s financial situation is different. Depending on your circumstances, you may be able to use health insurance, private pay, education funding programs, grants, or government-funded resources to help your child access speech and language services.
Using Insurance for Pediatric Speech Therapy
Health insurance is one option families may choose when paying for pediatric speech therapy. Coverage and out-of-pocket costs vary by plan, so your individual benefits will determine what you may owe for services.
Blue Cross Blue Shield
Pediatric Speech Stars is an in-network provider with Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS). If you have a BCBS plan, we can complete a benefits check to help determine your expected cost for speech therapy based on your individual plan. Once your deductible has been met, your plan may cover some or all of your eligible speech therapy services, depending on your specific benefits.
Cigna and Aetna PPO Plans
Pediatric Speech Stars is an out-of-network provider for Cigna and Aetna PPO plans. For families with these plans, we offer discounted out-of-network rates and complimentary out-of-network billing. Because insurance benefits vary, we recommend reviewing your plan details and contacting your insurance company with questions about your specific coverage.
Do You Provide Superbills?
This is a question we frequently receive from families. At this time, Pediatric Speech Stars does not provide superbills for services rendered.
Private Pay Speech Therapy
Private pay is another option families may choose for pediatric speech therapy. With private pay, families pay directly for therapy services rather than using insurance.
Pediatric Speech Stars accepts all major credit cards and HSA cards for eligible services. Private pay may be an option for families who do not have speech therapy benefits through their insurance plan or who prefer to pay directly for services.
Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA)
Some Texas families may be able to use funds through the Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) Program to help pay for approved educational expenses, which may include speech therapy. Pediatric Speech Stars is an approved TEFA vendor. To find Pediatric Speech Stars as an approved TEFA vendor:

7. Look for Pediatric Speech Stars in the list of participating vendors

Parent Directed Special Education Services (PDSES) Grant
The Parent-Directed Special Education Services (PDSES) Program is another resource that may help eligible Texas families access additional educational services, including speech therapy.
PDSES is a one-time, $1,500 grant for eligible students who receive special education services and are enrolled in a Texas public school. The program is first-come, first-served and available only once per eligible student.
Families interested in applying can:
1. Visit the PDSES information page
2. Create a MySPEDTex account
3. Review the PDSES application process
4. Complete the application during the designated application window
Because application dates and program requirements may change, families should check the official PDSES website for the most current information before applying. Families can also sign up for PDSES updates to receive information about future application opportunities.
Once a family receives a PDSES grant, the funds can be used for approved educational purposes. Parents can search for an approved PDSES service provider and submit a request for payment through ClassWallet’s Direct Pay platform. Pediatric Speech Stars is an approved PDSES provider. To find us:
1. Visit the PDSES approved provider directory

Other Resources for Families
If insurance, private pay, and education funding programs are not the right fit for your family, other public resources may be available depending on your child’s age and eligibility.
Early Childhood Intervention (ECI)
If your child is younger than 3 years old, Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) may be an option for your family. In Texas, ECI supports children from birth through 36 months who have a developmental delay, disability, or certain medical conditions that may affect their
development.
Certain services, including evaluation and assessment, case management, and development of an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP), may be provided at no cost.
If you have concerns about your child's speech, language, or overall development, you can contact your local ECI program here to learn more about eligibility and the referral process.
Child Find
For children ages 3 through 21, Child Find is a resource for families. Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), schools are responsible for
identifying, locating, and evaluating children who may have disabilities and may need special education services. If you have concerns about your school-age child’s speech, language, or communication, you can contact your local school district or special education department to ask about the Child Find process. Services provided by public schools are at no cost to eligible students and their parents.
